December 1, 2006, Newsletter Issue #44: Illegal Operations

Tip of the Week

I have seen people panic over their computer's “Illegal operation” error message. Basically, the message states that the program you're running has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. Don't worry, no laws have been violated, and neither you nor your computer is off to the Big House. What the error message should say is “Your computer just had a brain freeze and messed up: please try again.” Everyone gets illegal operation errors occasionally. If you get frequent error messages, use a computer health and safety scan to check for computer registry errors that may be causing illegal operations.
